Who Can Apply for This Visa? In general, any foreign professional can apply for this visa. If it's a regulated profession, such as Law, Engineering, Accounting, Medicine, among others, you must obtain the validation of your degree and the Professional Card, license, or authorization from the corresponding professional association. If it's an unregulated profession, you must demonstrate that it is of interest to the country.

Specific Requirements for the Colombian Independent Professional Visa: • A letter stating the occupation or activity you intend to carry out in the country in the exercise of your profession. • Copy of the degree validation by the Colombian Ministry of National Education. • Titles that can be validated in Colombia: • Técnicos and tecnólogos (Technical and Technologist Degrees) • Pregrados, bachelors, grados or licenciaturas (Undergraduate Degrees, Bachelors, Bachelor's Degrees, or Licentiate Degrees) • Maestrías and especialidades médicas (Master's Degrees and Medical Specializations) • Doctorados (Doctorates) • Validation costs in 2023: Approximately 778,836 COP (185.19 USD for undergraduates) and 883,866 COP (210 USD for postgraduates). Processing time is 60 to 180 days. • Demonstrate compliance with other requirements for the exercise of the profession in accordance with current laws, including the presentation of the Professional Card, license, or provisional permit granted by the corresponding professional association. • Bank certification in the name of the foreigner, not issued more than 30 days ago, showing the account opening date, product types, and the average balance and monthly movement for the last six months. You must demonstrate average monthly income equal to or greater than five times the legal monthly minimum wage, which is 5,800,000 COP (approximately 1,380 USD at an exchange rate of 4,200 COP per 1 USD) in 2023. • For activities based on professional experience rather than academic training, you must provide supporting documents or certifications of your suitability and experience. • Health insurance policy, contract, program, or assistance plan with coverage in the national territory. • Digital photo of your face with a white background, size 4 x 3 cm, with a neutral expression and without accessories like earrings, glasses, caps, or a white shirt, and a maximum weight of 100 kb. • Pay the government fees: Study 54 USD, Issuance 270 USD, Cédula de Extranjería (foreigner's identification card) 50 USD approximately. Other Documents That May Be Required: • If you are in Colombia, you must have a valid legal stay or "Salvoconducto." • Itinerary or travel tickets if you are outside the country, police record or criminal record from your country of origin or residence with an apostille. • Address of stay: Either a hotel, temporary lodging, rented housing, or the place where you will be received.
